Fenway seems good.ย He has gotten up, with no assistance, 3 times today.ย I cant help but wonder if this is normal? And is it too much activity for him already?
In addition, he has also, hopped/walked on his own a few times, that is until I “rescued” him, ย and he sat down ๐
I just dont know what is enough, or too much too soon.ย Can anyone help??

Im 44 years old. Live with my boyfriend of 13 years, in Southeastern Ct. I have loved goldens my whole life. My 2 dogs are sister and brother, Macy May and Fenway Frank. They are 8.5 years old, and they are my children. Fenway was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on August 1, 2012..Since then, I feel like I have been on a roller coaster ride....His amputation surgery is scheduled for Tues Sept 4, 2012. This is our story

Fenway, hmm — as in Fenway Park? For 8.5, he seems to be doing really well. I don’t remember seeing anything on Fenway, I’ll have to go through the Forums to read his story. There have been quite a few goldens in the past few weeks. I don’t have advice for you but just wanted to wish Fenway well! You will have many well-wishers and a lot of excellent advice and support.
Hi Kathy,
Yes Fenway as in Fenway Park. His real name is Fenway Frank, because he was always hot as a pup.
Thanks for the comment, Im very new to this, and Im not even sure if my blogs are seen by others yet.
Getting better everyday, though.
Oh, btw, he stood up again. 4x in 1 day.
Mommyis very proud!
You’re doing fine, Sue, your blog showed up! Hang in there!
In the interest of full disclosure I should say that I am a San Francisco native and a Giants fan! But of course I won’t hold anything against Fenway.
I would say that as long as his incision looks good getting up is OK- I wouldn’t let him get too active until the stitches come out though. Is he getting up because he is restless? The pain meds do that sometimes. And front amps seem to have trouble figuring out how to lay down after they get up- is he a front amp?
You should come over to the forums when you have time. Lots more people there- and you will probably get more responses to your questions. Also- have you seen Jerry’s Required Reading list? It is a compilation of information from this site on amputation, recovery and treatment. You can find it here: https://tripawds.com/2010/06/01/first-tripawds-required-reading-list/. This site has tons of information to offer- I know it seems a bit confusing at first. But once you know your way around you will find all kinds of great info.

Welcome Goldenmama. Being a Boston girl myself, I’m in love with Fenway already – all thing Fenway are good! Fenway sounds like he’s doing great! You’ll have ups and downs over the next handful of days – hang in and he’ll start to really amaze you! Xoxo Sue
Woohoo! go Fenway!
Samdog and I just passed our two week mark and I will say that one day two, while he was still doped up on painmeds – he was getting up on his own and going outside. I kept our walks short, but though he could get up on his own – he wouldn’t without me asking him too. I would need to go back and look – but about day 4 he started to show enthusiasm about going outside.
I’d follow Fenway’s lead (she says in hindsight). If he wants to go out, go out. If he wants to lay still, lay still. Samdog still gets tired pretty quick – but each day we go just a little further, because he wants to… so we do.
The first week was hard for us, I worried (still do) about everything. Samdog keeps telling me to trust him and I’m getting better at that too.
Keep up the good work Fenway! You too Goldenmama!
I look forward to hearing more about your golden progress.
Hugs, from another golden family!

Sounds like Fenway is doing great! We just responded to your PM, but you may want to asking the forums for feedback from others too.
I’m glad things are going well so far. I can’t help you on what is normal because Magnum was kept in hospital for 4 nights.
As others have said, posting a question in the Forums will get you more answers.
Good luck

Hey Karen,
Fenway gets up to greet us, and to greet his grandma, but not usually because of restlessness. We havent gotten to the “bored with being inside” restlessness yet. I think he just is trying to be as “normal” as can be…(I also think he is relatively pain-free compared to the agony he was in prior to the surgery) so his zest for life is shining through.
His eating and drinking habits have not changed at all. He loves the peanut butter treats (aka antibiotics, pain meds etc) and he is always eager to eat them. I am so thankful , because I know so many dogs who WON’T take pills.
Also, he has been going to bathroom on a regular basis, since we came home. Again, thankful he hasnt had those issues yet.
However, day 3 post-op, he is very bruised. Obviously, after that type of surgery, its to be expected, but still alarming.
Samdog, Thank you for the info about trusting him. We are trying not to micro-manage him. We successfully followed his lead yesterday, and let him lay on the front lawn for over an hour. Fenway LOVED that.
But because he walked so far, he was very tired last night. And because of that, we carried him for a bit. But did not carry him the whole way (even though every ounce of me was saying carry him all the way in ๐
So onto day 3. We shall see what today brings us….
Thank you all,
xoxo and puppy kisses

Oh, forgot to mention,
he stood to eat last night. All on his own, and he didnt even wobble . (ha ha, we have always said he is hypnotized by food, clearly he will do ANYTHING for chow)
I did take pictures. I will figure out how to upload. I have the whole day to figure it out.
xoxo

One more thing:
Krun15, yes he is a front right amp. ๐
