Day 8, The bandages are off !!!!!!

Its 1:55 pm, eastern standard time, and all is well.  In fact Fenway is asleep at my feet, and his bandages are off.

I am not going to lie, I had severe anxiety at the thought of what his wound would look like…..And I can tell you, it looks great.

The bruising has almost vanished.   The swelling has gone down dramatically.  And his hair is growing back slowly.

The trip to the vet was pretty uneventful.  But once we got there, the stress started.  Stress for Mom, not Fen.

He hopped out of the truck, and proceeded up the 8 steps and right through the automatic doors. (doesnt he know he isnt supposed to do the stairs???? ) Then, he realized where he was, and turned around and tried to leave!! (truth be told, he is NOT a fan of the vets)  With the help of my friends, we turned him around.  Thats when I realized there were no mats on the ground.  None.  All tile, and a long way to go.  OMG.  How did I forget that ?  How did I forget to bring his mats to put down?

As usual Fenway handled it like a champ.  He hopped right in, sat down for a bit, and then hopped into the exam room.
He was cool as a cucumber.  The doc cut his bandages off, and everything looks good. 🙂
We made it home safely, and asI type, he snores.  No stress for him.

Day 8, and its all good!!!!

Im 44 years old. Live with my boyfriend of 13 years, in Southeastern Ct. I have loved goldens my whole life. My 2 dogs are sister and brother, Macy May and Fenway Frank. They are 8.5 years old, and they are my children. Fenway was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on August 1, 2012..Since then, I feel like I have been on a roller coaster ride....His amputation surgery is scheduled for Tues Sept 4, 2012. This is our story

  1. It’s good to hear how well Fenway is doing. Funny that he put on the brakes when he realized he was at the vet. I have the exact opposite with mine — he gets so excited he tries to walk through the glass doors!

  2. Hoppy Wednesday to you too!

Isn’t is so weird that vet offices have slippery floors? I don’t get it. But yes, unexpectedly encountering slippery floors is one of the things about life as a Tripawd. It’s good to be prepared with a pair of boots but sometimes you just forget. A Ruff Wear harness is also super helpful in these situations. Glad that he didn’t slip and slide around.

    OK Ma, now b r e a t h e . . . . all is well!

  3. Thanks Jerry,
We bought the ruffwear harness, but I hadnt put it on him yet, because he still had bandages on.

Needless to say, next week, we will use that harness. And bring some of our own mats (the office has a LONG walkway)

The worst part is, 6 people, did absolutely NOTHING to help, even when I was asking for help. WOW. Hate to think what they do if he fell? Walk away? Frustrating.

@Kathy, Fenway’s sister Macy LOVES the vet, runs right in, and greets everyone in the building. I am pretty sure Fenway thinks she’s crazy !

Today we are resting. It was a busy day yesterday.

  4. Great to hear a wonderful progress report!! Glad to hear Fenway is healing well!

I’ve mentioned it so much, maybe I mentioned it to you….. I SWEAR by PAWZ boots for the slippery surfaces!! Charlie wore them to his vet visit Monday. It helps so much with mobility AND increases his confidence!! I gave PAWZ such a rave review they just sent me 4 complimentary packs 🙂 They are disposable, but last quite awhile. He can wear them on walks, in the house – just important not to leave them on ALL day since they don’t ‘breathe’. The PAWZ girl said some people put talc in them.

On my blog I have a PAWZ link (@ right under ‘best links’) I order thru Amazon.com they seem to have a reasonable price. They will be one of Charlie’s accessories for the rest of his life 🙂

Oh so happy for Fenway, and hope his mom’s stress level is going down due to such great progress reports!!

Hugs from Charlie (and his mom)

  5. Way to go, Fenway!!!

I’m so greatful that he is healing, that he was able to negotiate those floors and most importantly, that you were there to see him succeed!

Sam is three weeks post amp today and is able to get all around the house, with our slippery floors, like a champ. He uses the carpets when available, but most of the time he is just going where he wants to go… no worries. I think I am finally able to not worry about every detail in Sam’s day. I love the harness, but he only wears it when we go somewhere in the car. Now if only his fur would start to grow back. 🙂

Keep up the good work Fenway. We are still rootin’ fur ya down here in AZ.

    Hugs!
    Samdog and his mom

  6. Us dogs don’t worry about what might happen, our humans do more than enough worrying for all of us. Lucky for Fenway he couldn’t see the dangers until he remembered where he was!

Glad to hear he is doing well.
