Cant believe its only been 12 days!!

So, all along Fenway has been impressing me with his strength and stamina.  Day 12, and nothing has changed.

He spent the whole 11th day outside.  First napping, then sniffing, and then attempting to chase the hawks flying overhead  ( luckily Mommy was quicker than he was, but not by much!!!).

He seems to like his ruffwear harness, he sits a little taller with it on (I think he looks tough, and apparently he feels tough in it).  Standing for long periods is NOTHING for him.  However, since we dont allow him to run, or go to far, he usually opts to sit back down.

He is still eating, and drinking normally.  The only change we have made is we have taken him off all of his pain meds (except the gabbapentin) . He seems great.  He never actually seemed to be in a lot of pain, a little uncomfortable maybe, but nothing he hasnt dealt with prior to surgery.  (before the amp, he was clearly in a lot of pain).

Dy 12 is a fabulous warm sunny day here in S.E. Connecticut.  Fenway is enjoying the weather with his sister, and his Dad, lounging in the pool yard.  He hasnt been allowed out there since his surgery (too many obstacles to worry about).  But, he has more confidence with himself, and he is able to move about freely, so we have allowed him to join the family, doing his favorite thing…….chilling in the shade.   He is so happy !!!!

His Chemotherapy starts Tuesday.  We are praying he tolerates it as well as everything else we have thrown his way.  I cant imagine anything less from him.  He really is an amazing dog.

We are off to a wedding in a bit.  And the best part, we can truly enjoy ourselves, knowing he is doing so well.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
Fenway wishes everyone a golden day.

  1. Love it! Love it! Love it! What a beautiful update. Thank you for being so detailed, Fenway’s recovery is truly inspawrational!

Hope this week brings smooth sailing for the chemo treatment. Good luck, and of course keep us posted.

  2. Fenway, you are a rock star!!! Keep up the good work, big guy. Show your parents that three-leggers can do everything four-leggers can! Pretty soon I bet you’ll even catch one of those hawks!!!

  3. We are 2 days behind you… Our 8.75 yr old Australian Shepherd had his left front amputation on Thursday September 6. We have been following your blog everyday and it’s amazing that we are going through a lot of the same things as you are. Po’Alima is doing great so far and it seems like his spirits are up and he has his smile back. We have opted to not do chemo on our dog. He is doing well now and we are hoping that he will live his days out without that horrible pain. Thanks for posting your story, it has been a great support for us as we go through the same things that you are going through. (Including the sore elbow on his good leg). Good luck with the Chemo tomorrow. Our Po’Alima’s staples come out Thursday.

    Aloha,
    Jess

  4. Oh Jess, so gld to hear your story.

I am hoping Fen tolerates the chemo. But I guess everything has risks. Hoping pain isnt one of them.

I sure hope your baby Po’Alima is back to his regular self soon!!

    Good luck with him.
Keep us posted on his progress.

    xoxo Fenway and Mama Sue
