Sept. 18, 2012. exactly 2 weeks since his surgery, and his staples came out today.
No pain or discomfort while they took them out. The wound looks clean and neat. So, off to our first Chemotherapy appointment.
As usual, my big man-dog handled himself like a true champion. (I take no credit for this, it is, without a doubt, his zest for life that drives him).
He exited the van, on his own, and then took me for a very very long walk, into the woods to do his business (Ha, ha, he knew I wouldnt stop him, because we drove over an hour to get there!!) Then after he went, I offered him a break…and as usual, he just kept going. And going, right into the office.
The doctor examined him, and she did note that Fenway has a stronger right back leg, than his left, but felt it wasnt anything to be concerned about.
And then off he went, across the office to get his chemotherapy treatment.
We waited for a bit, and then he was back, smiling, and dragging the technician behind him!!!
Fenway took a nice long nap, and is now laying at my feet, staring at me (perhaps willing me to give him a few more cookies) . Ha ha, I think i will give him a few.
2 weeks after surgery, and I am officially done freaking out!! I am just amazed that he is doing so well. I knew he was strong, and I knew he was in pain before the surgery, but seeing him like he is now, proves to me that we did the right thing. The pain is gone. He is great. His new normal is getting better everyday. He is smiling again. 🙂
Hugs and sloppy golden kisses.
xoxo Fenway, and Mama Sue
Way to go Fenway! It’s amazing what our dog can teach us!
Fenway, if I remember right, your Mom said you were named Fenway because you were “hot”. It sounds like you are living up to your name!
Hooray!!!! Hooray for Fenway doing so great. Hooray for mom not needing moments to freak out. Hooray for it all!!!
Here is to hoping for hooray that he handles chemo just as well. (Sam was sleepy the day after and a tiny bit of yummy trouble 10 days after his first dose. We get our blood draw tomorrow to check his blood counts)
Good health to you both and hugs from us!
Oops. That is tummy trouble. Dang auto correct!
Thanks for the info Samdog. I dont know why, but I figured if he has tummy troubles, they would be right away, and not later??!!
Either way, we are prepared.
Today, he does seem a little sleepy, but he still went for a long trek across the yard, and did his business…And also growled at a few squirrels, and gave a warning bark, to the neighbors dog (hey, he may be sleepy, but his job is to protect the yard, so he did)
Sleeping now, behind the couch, with his sister close by. Life is good here.
So wonderful to hear that Fenway is doing so well! Warm wishes for his continued success. And it’s just awesome that his new “normal” showed up so soon!
Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
Hugs and Treats all the way around.
Here’s to no more freaking out! Yaaaay!!!! You and Fenway are going through this like champs.
I just hopped over here after posting Elgin’s latest blog. I am delighted to read that you’re journey is going as well as Elgins! Isn’t it amazing how well they adjust!? I’m so glad to read all about how Fenway is running and chasing and going on long walks. This, and Elgin’s behavior today just go to show me that we’ve been too cautious in his rehabilitation. Now, we’re not going to start entering him in any marathons, but I think we’ll be open to more arduous excercising for him. I toast to all our wonderful tripawds out there! Here’s to THEM showing US how to handle things!
Glad to hear the ‘freakout’ period is over!! Every day I’m sure Fenway will become more and more comfortable as a Tripawd! Hope he’s not having serious side effects from the Chemo. Way to go Fenway!! Keep posting the updates!!
