Out for a Sunday drive….weeeeeeee!

look at me go!!!! riding, and having a great time!!!

out for a sunday drive!!!

Day 19 proved to be an eventful day!!

First, Fenway took his longest walk since his surgery (without stopping.)  Then, he stayed outside for the entire morning, watching daddy work on the lawn.  He was so content.
Once a month, I take the dog blankets and beds to the laundromat, and yesterday was the day.  When I went to the truck, Fenway seemed interested, but he didnt come over, and didnt try to get in, so off I went.   Half way down the driveway, I stopped to talk to David, and bring him some water, and then I saw him….in the rear view mirror…..He was running down the diveway after the truck!!!!!   I got out, and hugged him.  He looked so cute! and so strong!  (Unfortunately, the laundromat isnt a place to take him, so I left and promised to take him out later.)

After their beds were cleaned, I had David put Fen in the truck (NO, I AM STILL NOT COMFORTABLE LETTING HIM TRY TO JUMP UP INTO THE TRUCK) even though Fenway wanted to do it himself.  Once inside, it was fun, fun, fun.  He was thrilled, barking at people as we drove past, tail wagging, and I even let him hang his head out the window a bit.

We stopped at the store, and he barked at everyone.  Went to another store, and again barked at everyone (perhaps he just wanted everyone to know he was there?) And then we went to see his auntie.  First time since his surgery, he saw my sister, and he didnt let us down.  Hopping all around the truck, and even shoving sissy out of the way, just to get more attention.

He was a rockstar!!   Then he fell asleep in the back 🙂

Got him home, and true to form, he tried to jump out all on his own (but again, I didnt allow that, Daddy picked him up and placed him down).   Either way, he did it.  His first ride, since surgery, that didnt include a stop at the vet !!!!!!  He was soooo very happy.

Fenway napped for about an hour after our trip.

Then again, I went out for a drive, to the grocery store, and when I arrived home….yup, he ran to greet my car.  The best feeling in the world watching my tripawd guy running to meet me tail held high, ears flapping, fur flying, and smiling all the way to me!!

I slept like a baby last night knowing he had a fantastic day!  Day 19 was just fabulous.

Golden kisses, and hugs to everyone.

  1. What a WONDERFUL day for all of you! Yeah for Fenway feeling like himself again. I remember the day that Hunter felt good again and it was wonderful! He tore off with Daddy’s lunch bag and put holes all over it with his teeth. Years ago he was taught to carry it into the house after Daddy came home from a work day. We know all too well the “think I can do it look” from our tripawd in relation to getting into a vehicle, but we also know it’s still best to lift him in and out. One time I let Hunter get into the back of our wagon by himself and he didn’t jump high enough and was stuck with his front end in and his rear end still on the ground… so, never again!
The car ride is so good for dogs who are good travelers and I’m sure the fresh air and the scenery did him wonders! Keep up the good work, all of you!

  2. I am all smiles for you Fenway! Does his tail swing in wild circles when he is running and wagging at the same time? Just curious..

I haven’t let Samdog into the truck yet. He can manage the car, but the truck is a higher jump… I’m too nervous too try it.

Hooray for good days. I hope for you many, many more.

  3. Hey Fenway, you are looking like you’ve got some great balance there in your chariot!

I highly recommend NOT jumping in or out of cars. Even quad pawds shouldn’t do that according to vet rehab specialists we’ve talked to.

Let your people assist you getting in and out by hanging onto your harness, it’s much less impactful way of protecting your joints. No jumping is necessary, let them spoil you rotten like you deserve!

  4. That’s wonderful. Sounds like Fenway is well and truely getting back to normal. Magnum loved going places in the car and she also got extra privileges of sticking her head out the window post amp.

  5. Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts on the jumping into the truck. I wasnt sure if I was was being overly cautious or just smart. Either way, I made the right choice, and he will be placed safely into the truck via “daddy delivery”.

To answer your question Samdog, yes, his tail does this crazy circle/figure 8 combination when he is running and happy. It looks so cute!!

Prior to his diagnosis and surgery, Fenway and sissy went 4-5 times a week in the truck down to the river and running through the trails, so he is very used to going for drives. The one we took on Sunday definitely perked up his spirits 🙂

One more thing, last night he ran to greet me in the car again. I can NOT tell you how happy this makes me. To see him, smiling, and wagging and just acting like himself. Makes me heart sing. Did I ever tell you how much I love my kids???

Have a great happy golden day!!!
