Big Sigh Of Relief!!!

Off to the vet we go. Its a sunday drive, but a little different this time.

The vet called, and we went to see her, to have Fenway checked out.  Even though the pain medicine was making him seem a little better, I knew there was still something off about him.  His ears were warm, and he was drinking a lot of water.

She ran a blood test and it came back with a very high white blood cell count. His temperature was high, and the area, where the limb was removed, was very warm, and red.  Diagnosis = Infection.

Fenny chilling at the vet (Macy and Daddy close by to supervise)

Clavamox for the infection. Tramadol for the discomfort =  sleepy Fenny.

Needless to say, he will not be going to the grocery store with me this afternoon.  Instead he will be resting.

Thank Goodness he will be ok.  Mommy doesnt like when the kids are sick .

Golden hugs and kisses

  1. Ouch! I am grateful you all saw the signs, that your vet can treat it with medicine, that it will clear up, and your golden boy will be back to himself very soon.

Good catch mama sue. Feel better soon Mr. Fenway

    Hugs!

  2. Isn’t it funny how a cancer diagnosis changes our perspective on our pups? When Maggie was having some trouble at one point I didn’t know what to think- I swear when the vet called with results I almost said out loud “oh good, kidney failure”! As long as it wasn’t cancer.
I hope Fenway is back to his old self soon.

  3. I’m so glad this is something that the meds can fix and get rid of!

Fenway is lucky to have such a vigilant mom.

  4. Thanks everyone.
Funny or ironic, Im not sure which, but people have teased me in the past for being so “into” my dogs. And I always remind them that, they cant tell me when they are sick (like a child can) so I have to watch, observe, and “listen” in other ways. If you are not familiar with their “regular” or “normal” how will you know when things are off???????

Because of this, I have caught a many infections, and odd behavior, and even diagnosed my other dog, Macy, with epilepsy (Of course, a neurologist confirmed this for us). Also, have found little masses under very thick fur, and I even can smell their ears, and know if there is an infection brewing. Sounds crazy, but dog pawrents understand.

So, I am glad I am so “into” my dogs. If i hadn’t noticed him panting, and just attributed it to the warmth, he could have been needlessly suffering in pain.
Had I not noticed his ears were warm, and if I had not noticed the redness under his belly, he wouldnt have been diagnosed with an infection, and he wouldn’t be feeling better today.

So, I am proud to say I am diligent, even down right obsessive about keeping an eye out for my kids. Thats what mommies do.

Fenway would thank me, if he wasnt sound asleep 🙂

    Golden kisses and hugs
    Mama Sue
